Use XCortex from your AI assistant
The short version
- XCortex is your planner; Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok can add to it, read it and update it when you ask.
- Connect once: add a custom connector with the address
https://xcortex.com/mcp/connect, sign in to XCortex and choose Allow. - You stay in control: every change can be undone, big changes ask first, and you can disconnect at any time.
What you can do
Once connected, just talk to your assistant the way you'd talk to XCortex:
- “Add pick up the dry cleaning tomorrow at 5pm to XCortex.”
- “What's on my XCortex list today?” · “What's left on my Move to Denver project?”
- “Mark call the plumber as done.”
- “Move my dentist appointment to Friday and remind me the day before.”
- “Plan my week: chem test Thursday, soccer Tuesday and Thursday.”
The tools
The connector offers nine tools. Everyday reads and writes run instantly; anything bigger is handed to the XCortex assistant, which knows your history and asks before big changes.
| Tool | What it does | Changes data? |
|---|---|---|
agenda | Today at a glance: open tasks with times and reminders, overdue, things coming due, and how your goals are going. | No |
list | Tasks for a day or range, matching words, the steps of a project, overdue or undated ones, what keeps getting postponed, or what you completed in a period. Shows how often a task has been postponed. | No |
get | One task in full, including its notes and steps. | No |
goals | Your goals and how each is going. | No |
add | Adds a task, or up to 25 at once, with optional date, time, project, notes and reminder. | Adds |
move | Moves one or more tasks to another day or to the backlog. A repeating task's occurrence moves on its own. Large moves ask first. | Yes |
complete | Marks a task done, optionally adding a note (added to the existing notes, never replacing them). | Yes |
ask_xcortex | Passes any other request, in your words, to the XCortex assistant: plan a project or a week, break a task down, cancel, set repeats, count from history. Big or destructive changes come back for confirmation first. | Yes |
undo | Undoes the most recent change an assistant made in XCortex. It never undoes something you did yourself. | Yes |
Set it up
You need an XCortex account. The free plan works; requests handled by the XCortex assistant (ask_xcortex) count toward your plan's AI allowance, while the other eight tools don't.
Claude
- Open XCortex in Claude's connector directory and choose Connect. (Or in Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector with
https://xcortex.com/mcp/connect.) - Claude opens XCortex: sign in if asked, check that the request is for Claude, and choose Allow.
Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http xcortex https://xcortex.com/mcp/connect, then /mcp and Authenticate.
ChatGPT
Turn on developer mode in ChatGPT's settings (it needs a paid plan), add a connector with the address above, and sign in when asked.
Gemini and Grok
Add a custom connector (Gemini: a custom MCP app; Grok: grok.com → Connectors → Custom) with the same address, then sign in when asked. Availability depends on the provider and your region.
Permissions and control
- You approve each assistant on XCortex's own page. It shows which app is asking and where the answer goes back to.
- Undo everything. Changes made through a connector are recorded like the XCortex assistant's own, so “undo that” (or Undo in the app) takes them back.
- Big changes ask first. Deleting or changing many tasks at once comes back as a question; nothing happens until it's confirmed.
- Disconnect any time in XCortex under Settings → Connections → Other assistants. Access stops immediately.
- The connector can only work with your own XCortex account. The Try-it playground can't be connected.
Privacy
The assistant you connect receives the tasks, notes and results its requests return, and handles them under your agreement with that provider. XCortex doesn't receive your conversations with it, only the requests its tools send. Requests handed to the XCortex assistant are processed like any other XCortex AI request. Details: Privacy Policy, section 5.
Troubleshooting
- “This connection request can't be used”: go back to your assistant and start the connection again. If it keeps happening, tell us which assistant you're using.
- Asked to sign in again: the connection was disconnected or expired. Connect again from your assistant.
- The XCortex assistant says it can't help right now: your plan's AI allowance may be used up for the month; simple adds, lists and completions keep working.
Feedback and support
Tell your assistant to “send feedback to XCortex: …”. Your words reach the team directly (up to five a day), so you can report a bug or ask for a feature without leaving the chat. For anything else: [email protected].
